Walk Does the Mind Good

Labrador Retriever Blog | December 21st, 2008

I stopped by a friend’s house the other day and took Cooper along for the visit. My friend was doing not a lot of anything when we got there. He was looking at Leptovox ads on the internet and sulking around the house. It’s winter time and there is isn’t much to do. He was looking into ways to stay in shape and shed some pounds over the season. I invited him out for the rest of the walk and he came along. I think he enjoyed the fresh air and exercise. It really does the body and mind good. It’s amazing how a dog and a good walk can turn a persons day around.

Dog Food Choices

Labrador Retriever Blog | December 21st, 2008

What dog food do you use? Picking a brand that is good for your dog and affordable for you is no easy task. There are as many different foods on the market as there are diet pills like Leptorexin.

If you are thinking about switching foods or not sure about the food you are using then there are a few things to consider. Go online and read some reviews of different foods. There are tons of reviews online about dog foods. Go to chat forums like the Labrador retriever forums and get the advice of other dog owners. Get the advice of your vet or pet food store owner. Both should be fairly straight with you.

Christmas Tips for Puppies

Labrador Retriever Blog | December 20th, 2008

labrador retriever puppiesJust a reminder to all that Christmas is right around the corner and if you think that shoes and socks are a targe for labs you might want to be careful with you toys and presents. If you are a first time labrador retriever puppy owner there no bigger smorgasbord for them.

Just think of all of the wrapping paper, bows, ribbons and toys laying around on the ground. So before you get your ipods swallowed there are some things you should take care of.

You shouldn't leave your puppy unattended around the tree and toys. There are just too many things for them to get into. Save yourself some grief and make sure you keep you eye on them. You wouldn't want to get anything destroyed but those monster teeth and you don't want them to get sick by swallowing something that will cause internal stress.

Make sure you have all of your valuable toys and gifts up off of low lying tables so your pupper can't get at them. If they can't get at them, they can't destroy them and everyone is happy.

Do the same with foods and treats. A lot of people have chocolate treats out this time of year and that last thing you want to do is have your puppy or dog gobble down a tray full. Just make sure they are out of reach.

If you have a smaller puppy remember they can get tuckered out easy with all of the kideos running around. Keep your eye on them and make sure they get some rest by having their crate put somewhere quiet where they can get away. Hey, I like to hide out from the inlaws and your dog is probably no different.

Keeping Cooper Out of the Tub

Labrador Retriever Blog | December 20th, 2008

Well we finally got around to getting most of our bathroom renovations done. We have a few small things left to take care of like some painting and decorating but for the most part things are up and running. Now we have to try and keep Cooper out of the new bathtub. We didn't care too much about the last one and he was in it constantly but now we wouldn't mind keeping this one scrartch free for a while. It's not like a grand bathroom in a las vegas hotel but we would still like to keep it nice.

Our last tub and shower surround had some shelving on it. This one doesn't and the shampoo bottles are just sitting on the side of the tub. About every couple of hours you hear the bang of bottles landing in the tub because he is nosing around and smaking them with his tail. It's never a dull moment with a labrador retriever in the house.

Does Your Dog Watch TV?

Labrador Retriever Blog | December 18th, 2008

Does your labrador retriever or dog watch tv? I always have to smile when people post on the chat forums about their puppers watching tv. My Cooper doesn't seem to interested anymore but at one time he loved watching hockey games with me. A big Washington Capitals fan. I think he liked the fast movement and the colours but it's been awhile since he's watched a game.

There are a million youtube videos of dogs watching tv but I like this one the best.

Time to Travel

Labrador Retriever Blog | December 10th, 2008

I posted a little while back about looking at vacations because of the way the economy was going. There are lots of opportunities out there to get some great vacation rentals or properties cheap. It would be a good time to take the family on a trip. There are lots of fairly decent priced rentals down south to be had. You can find and rent places in the Outer Banks for next to nothing these days. Well bloggers if you have been thinking about taking a trip and getting a rental for a getaway the time couldn’t be better.

Cost of Owning A Dog

Labrador Retriever Blog | December 10th, 2008

I saw some posts this week on the chat forums about costs of owning a dog and responsibilities of owning a dog so I thought I would blog a post. When you are bringing a dog into your home you are going to have costs that you are going to have to be able to afford. You are going to have to feed and care for that pet and if you aren’t ready or in a spot to do so then it’s the pet that is going to suffer. There are essentials that they will need. Although it can be like shopping around for cheap auto insurance. You can find deals on toys and food if you are a wise and thrifty shopper. There are many deals to be had online and in stores but in the end you are going to have to provide the essentials like food, health and shelter to your pet so be prepared to do so. They give you unconditional loyalty, it’s the leas you can do for them.
