Chemung County Sheriff Department Gets New Line of Defense BIG FLATS – The Southern Tier has a new line of defense against explosives. Three-year-old Chase, a Labrador Retriever, and an explosive detector are the newest members of the Chemung County Sheriff's Department. I made the mistake many years ago of trying to pet a guide dog in training one day when I was out for a stroll. I was reminded by the handler that she was working. I felt terrible and will never make that mistake again. Every morning on my way to work I see a guide dog and his owner out for their morning walk and I thought it would be nice blog a bit about guide dogs.

Guide dogs can also be called assistance dogs or seeing eye dogs as they were called when I was growing up. Guide dogs are trained to help people who are blind or partially blind with their daily chores such as going to work or shopping.
