I am currently looking for a silver lab…I love this breed..I would like one thts is a couple of years old…A rescue…
Not to breed…I have 2 chocolate and 1 yellow…Awesome Family Dogs…
i have a silver lab and i absolutely love her!!!!!
if it was a little more sleek it would look like a weimeraner
A fool and their money are easily parted.
im getting my yellow bred with a silver dog im exited:)
blueknightlabs is an excellent source for those wishing to learn more about labrador color and genetics
Wow…well, I got a “Silver” lab from a rescue shelter…cute as hell for sure, but as I read about the “silver” lab and started looking up the weim info, I have to concur, her face is TOTALLY weim. I don’t have her for breeding or showing purposes, just an adorable pet, but just from what I see, I think there is a mix.
can’t we all just agree that this lil fucker is cute as hell?
I just got my first SILVER lab about 6 months ago. She is an adorable, full bred LAB. I have pedigree proof that six generations back are full bred labs. Now I don’t know about the CKC, but my dog is registered as a chocolate lab by the AKC. I have had 4 other labs (3 black and one chocolate) that look exactly like her, the only difference is the coat color. I did read from a credible resource that DNA tests were trying to prove the breed. I will have to find that and post it here. Interesting.
There is no such test available. It isn’t possible at this point to differentiate one “breed” from another completely. The “CKC” of all people certainly doesn’t have the money and technology to do so. Defending this by using the CKC is a bit of a joke considering how well known that registry is for admitting crossbreeds. Please do your research or present your sources. I have a background in biology and genetics and watch canine legislation closely. I’ve never seen proof of what u r claiming.
this kid is the only kid with a fuckin brain the AKC and CKC just registered them as their own breeedd!!!!
They tested more than one their bud why don’t you actually research your shit before you waste peoples time with false bullshit
DNA testing by the CKC showed that they are pure bread and not a cross, their being brought in as hunting dogs, CKC just took it to court so shut up unless you know your facts.
have a nice day
The AKC DOES actually allow them to be registered as chocolate but the coat color alone (not to mention several other differences) is an immediate disqualification in any juried show. They are “pet color only” as we in the show world call it. They may someday be recognized once they are stable without in-crossing but as of now, they are not. They have even stated that they regret the original allowance of the color into the breed but it’s too late at this point. Nice dogs though.
jbarrant – also as a long time weimaraner breeder and owner of labs I can guarantee the resemblance is more than a bit obvious. Not to mention-THE CROSS BREEDING IS IN THE STUD BOOKS! The AKC allows them to be registered b/c the genetics aren’t around to prove the lineage of every dog but it will be soon. Until then breeders are making a mint duping people into thinking that they are buying a prestigious rare breed. They just aren’t worth that kind of the money and hype but they’re great dogs.
jbarrant – they ARE a weim and elkhound cross, as I said it is IN THE STUD books. There was only breifly a “Silver” classification for labs w/ the AKC until they decided that it was not a true color in and of itself. They class them with chocolates b/c they simply don’t know what else to say about them. their is no genetic test that proves that silver is dilute choc. If you have found one, pls. site your source.
They don’t register them as silver…they register them as brown b/c lots of breeders make the false claim that silver is a dilute version of chocolate but it isn’t. The AKC can’t genetically prove every dogs background so they gave this one to the breeders. Genetically speaking they are wrong though silver is NOT a dilute choc. nor are the gold eyes dilute brown. The cross breedings with weimaraners and elkhounds are even in the stud books if you care to do the digging. It is a RECORDED cross!
its quite obviously a wiemeraner mix. KC would not register a silver lab, FACT!
you guys are retarded silver labs are akc registered i have one and im 13
TOO CUTE!!!
oh and i also forgot, the sire (daddy) was light silver and the dam (mommy) was a silver factored chocolate. She produced 12 pups total, 4 browns 8 silvers
(continuation of previous comment)This whole argument regarding the legitimacy of the silver color is really getting tired. Yes, they look very similar to weimaraners, especially as pups, but anyone with one eyeball can see the difference as adults. In the end, it doesn’t really matter to me. He is a wonderful companion, and whether or not he is genetically up to snuff for any of you folks is of no consequence to me. Once again, what a beautiful pup, DJDomenate!
Beautiful pup. Looks just like my 3.5 month old SILVER lab. Yes, I said silver. I got him this past May from a reputable breeder. I have the proper documentation to prove it. He is registered as brown because I believe the AKC did away with the silver classification sometime in the late 80′s, but with the inevitable rise in popularity of the silver coat, it should probably be reinstated in the not to distant future.
where did you get him?! i LOVE the coloring of him! i want one sooo bad now!
Silver Labradors do in fact exist. They are just registered as purebred chocolate labs because there coat is a DNA test proven mutation of chocolate and black, just as the “red” and “white” labs are mutations of yellow labradors, therefore resistered as yellow. There are morons out there who try to cross breed weims/labs/goldens(google “Georgian Bay Sporting Dogs”). And don’t trip… I’ve seen a lot of lab pups, and Jocko looks like a lab, floppy ears and all.
